Receive God's Blessings

"Blessed is the man who trusts in the LORD,
and whose hope is the LORD."

Jeremiah 17:7

I went to a fast food restaurant for lunch. As I received my order, the man behind the counter said, "Have a blessed day." I thanked him and made my way to a table. Surely, that man was a believer in the LORD. The word blessed was my clue. God wants to bless people, but we must know how to receive.

Before the evening meal, the dad said to his family, "Let's have the blessing." Then, the dad thanked God for the food. His preschool son asked, "What is the blessing?" His dad explained, "It's when we bow our heads and thank God for our food. We ask Him to bless it, that we may be strong and healthy." God blesses us with fruitful seasons to provide food, but we must receive it. God's blessings are for all who will receive.

How do we receive the blessings of God? Jeremiah 17:7 gives three words that explain how to receive. The word LORD is God's covenant name, with four capital letters. His covenant promises are recorded in the Bible. He tells us how He wants to bless us. The word trust explains our part in receiving. As a child trusts his parents to meet his needs, so we trust our heavenly Father. The word hope further describes our expectation to receive from God. Hope is the evidence of things not seen. Be blessed. Receive God's blessings, trusting all His covenant promises.

LORD, we trust Your covenant promises.
