"And with great power the apostles gave witness
to the resurrection of the Lord Jesus.
And great grace was upon them all."
Acts 4:33
A lady was teaching a group of boys and girls during Vacation Bible School. Her subject was the grace of God. She explained the meaning of grace by using each letter for a word. G-R-A-C-E stood for God's Riches At Christ's Expense. Her definition of grace was focused on Christ.
We may ask the question, what is grace? A better question would be, who is grace? Grace is the person of Jesus Christ. "And of His fullness we have all received, and grace for grace" (John 1:16).
How does the grace of Christ come to us? Acts 4:33 makes it clear. The apostles gave witness to Christ with great power. The witness of the apostles is still presented to us through our New Testament. Great grace comes through the resurrection of Christ. This is the good news of grace. Christ is risen from the dead to change us by His grace. Great grace was not only upon the apostles, but likewise on all who believed.
The grace of God is received through faith in Christ. It is not only saving grace, but it is sufficient grace for everything we confront in this life. The apostle Paul encountered many problems in his life, yet his testimony was about great grace sufficient. Christ spoke the word of grace to him through his difficulties, "My grace is sufficient for you, for My strength is made perfect in weakness" (2 Cor. 12:9). Through all of your problems and difficulties, great grace is available through Christ.
God, we receive Your grace in Jesus Christ our Lord.
