"Nevertheless God, who comforts the downcast,
comforted us by the coming of Titus."
2 Corinthians 7:6
Three weeks after his wife's funeral, the elderly man found that his grief and loneliness was increasing. Surrounding the days when she died, he had family and friends with him. Now, they were busy with their own lives, and he was downcast more than ever. There was a knock at his door. It was a friend who had recently experienced the death of his wife also. They talked for a long time, sharing their emotions, as well as a few tears. When the friend was ready to leave, the man said, "Thank you for coming. You understand how I feel. You brought comfort to me."
The apostle Paul testified that he was going through conflict and trouble in his ministry. A friend in ministry came to him. His name was Titus. Paul was comforted by Titus being with him. The word comfort means to strengthen. During times of our weakness, we can find strength through others. God always wants to comfort us, and one way He does is through others.
How does God comfort us? If you are going through a difficult time, don't be surprised if God sends someone your way to strengthen you. The Christian life was never designed to live alone. We are members of one another through the body of Christ. God uses us to comfort, strengthen, and encourage one another. If you don't need comfort this day, ask God to use you to comfort and strengthen others. He may send someone your way that needs God's comfort through you.
God, comfort me that I may comfort others.
