Making Good Decisions

"Let the peace of God rule in your hearts . . ."

Colossians 3:15

A high school graduate had to make an important decision. In a few days, he would choose which college to attend. He was considering several schools, but he wasn't sure about the right one for him. His dad suggested that they continue to pray about it. He said, "Son, that's a decision for you to make, but God will give you wisdom to make the right decision." The son asked, "But how will I know when I have God's wisdom?" His dad replied, "You will know for sure, because God will give you peace of mind about it." A few days later, that's exactly what happened. He allowed the peace of God to have the final word.

God has promised to give wisdom to all who ask in faith (James 1:5-8). Often, we may wrestle with many conflicting thoughts when it comes to making decisions. The Bible teaches us that God's wisdom always brings peace to our hearts. "The wisdom from above is first pure, then peaceable . . ." (James 3:17).

When we make decisions, we should always seek as much information as possible. Also, we should consider how the decision will affect our lives, as well as others. Having done our part, we pray and seek God's wisdom. His peace should always have the final word in our hearts.

Do you have an important decision to make in the near future? Ask God for wisdom. Believe His promise to give you the wisdom that you need. Know that the wisdom will be given, and when it is, God will always confirm it with peace of mind. Peace is a fruit of the Holy Spirit working in our hearts (Galatians 5:22). The Holy Spirit guides us with the gift of wisdom, confirmed by the fruit of peace. The Holy Spirit is the believer's Counselor in making decisions.

Father, we ask for wisdom in making decisions.
