Win Over Worry

"Therefore do not worry about tomorrow,
for tomorrow will worry about its own things.
Sufficient for the day is its own trouble."

Matthew 6:34

Someone asked a successful businessman, "How do you deal with worry?" He laughed and said, "For the most part, I just ignore it. However, I schedule one hour a week to worry. I have a worry box. If anything worries me during the week, I write it on a piece of paper and put it in my worry box. Then on Friday, after a good meal at lunch, at 2:00 p.m. I go through all my worries. To my surprise, most of those problems have already been resolved."

The businessman practiced what Jesus taught in a very practical way. Since most of our worries are about tomorrow, they are often resolved before we can do anything about them. Living life to the fullest today, and not worrying about what we cannot control in the future, is what Jesus taught. Worry can become a bad habit that robs us of joy today. If we can do something about it today, that's fine. Just do it. Jesus said, "Sufficient for the day is its own trouble."

Are you worried about something today? Can you do something about it? If you can't, just put it in your worry box. Jesus said, "Tomorrow will worry about its own things." If you have a habit of worry, you can defeat it one day at a time. God has given you this day to enjoy. Don't worry about what you can't do. Simply do what you can today. Jesus has good advice for all of us. He says to you, "Sufficient for the day is its own trouble."

Lord Jesus, we take Your advice.
