Lust is an evil desire that promises pleasure and delivers disappointment and frustration. Lust is skillful in baiting its victims. Its hook pulls people to bondage. Understand this about lust, it is never satisfied. Its appetite can never find enough. Its fantasies are lies that deceive. Lust becomes a cruel master, gaining more and more control over its victims.
"For all that is in the world, the lust of the flesh, the lust of the eyes, and the pride of life, is not of the Father, but is of the world" (1 John 2:16). Lust is a common foe of all mankind, yet it deceitfully pretends to be your friend. It whispers, "You are not getting what you need." It appeals to your pride, saying, "You deserve more. Get what you want." There we see the power of lust in selfishness. It thinks only of self instead of others.
Lust tempts through the eyes and the flesh. God draws us through love and the Spirit. Make no mistake, love and lust have no relationship. They are as opposite as darkness and light. They lead on opposite paths. Love leads you to joy, peace, patience, goodness, kindness, and self-control. To the contrary, lust leads you to frustration, addiction, impatience, shame, and bondage.
Addiction boasts of the overwhelming power of lust. Then, lust dares to say to you, "This is your life. There is no way out." Don't believe the lie of lust. There is a way out. His name is Jesus. He delivers from the lust of life. Call upon him to do what you cannot, that is to make you free. Jesus says to you, "I have come that they may have life, and that they may have it more abundantly" (John 10:10).
