You need a father. Yet, you may ask, "Why do I need a father? I'm an adult, not a child." God made us as social beings. We need relationships, and that includes parents, mother and father. Then, the time comes when you may become a parent or a grandparent. You still need a father.
You need an everlasting Father, God Himself. God has made you for relationship with Him. He wants you to know Him as your Father. There are many names for God in the Bible, but Jesus revealed God as our Father in heaven. As the Son of God, Jesus lived His life in a personal relationship with the Father. He came to do the Father's will. He prayed to God the Father. He is the Father's Son.
God wants us to know Him as Father through His Son. It is by faith in Jesus Christ that we know God as Father. Receiving Jesus Christ makes us God's children. "But as many as received Him, to them He gave the right to become the children of God, to those who believe in His name" (John 1:12). As Christ knows God as Father, so in Christ believers know God as Father.
The everlasting God is the believer's everlasting Father. You need a Father in God. In Christ, you can trust God to be your Father forever. Abundant life is knowing God as Father. Real prayer is knowing God as Father. You need a Father, because you need God, and that's who He is.
