The Gift of Life

All of life is a gift. That includes every heart beat and every breath. Everything you own is a gift from God. Yes, I know you may have worked for it, but who gave you the strength and health to work? Oh yes, you may think you have so much because you are so smart. Who gave you intelligence and reason? All of it, your mind and body, strength and health comes only as a gift from God.

God not only gives you life, and all you have in life, but He wants to give you much more. God wants to give you eternal life. Once again, it's the gift of God. "For the wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord" (Romans 6:23). Eternal life is the very life of God. It comes only and always by trusting Jesus Christ our Lord. It's the gift of life, even eternal life.

If all of life is a gift from God, that raises an important question. Why would God give us all things freely? In your Bible, the answer is so clear. "For God so loved the world that He gave . . ." (John 3:16). That's God's true motive for giving you life and everything that you have. Why would God love you that much? It's because "God is love" (1 John 4:8).

God gave you everything that He has, when He gave you His Son.  If you question God's love, look at the cross where Jesus died. That's how much God loves you. The gift of life is eternal in Christ. Love would have it no other way, even God's love. "But God demonstrates His own love toward us, in that while we were still sinners, Christ died for us" (Romans 5:8).
