Prisoners of the Past

Prisoners of the past are bound by bitterness. They focus hate on the ones who hurt them. They think often about the scenes of the past where they were done wrong. They are bound by chains that they cannot see. They are bound to their own past. They adamantly refuse to forgive. Prisoners of the past often feel the pain today, as if it happened all over again.

Jesus speaks to prisoners of the past, saying, "For if you forgive men their trespasses, your heavenly Father will also forgive you" (Matthew 6:14). The prisoners eyes of understanding are opened. They can be free by forgiving the ones who hurt them. It's a choice of will. It's the sure way out of the prison. It won't be easy to forgive, but it will be harder not to forgive. Know that it's God's will to forgive. When we forgive, then we are free from the past.

Pray the Word: Father, I choose to forgive all who have done me wrong. I ask you to forgive me for the wrong I have done, through the Lord Jesus Christ. Amen.

Do the Word: Refuse to be a prisoner of the past. Forgive all who have done you wrong. Agree with God about forgiving others. Forgive others, because God has forgiven you.
