When You Are Angry

When you are angry, don't let it take control. Anger stirs the emotions to take control of the mind. Anger entices people to do things impulsively without thinking clearly. Refuse to make decisions on anger alone. Anger may lead to violence, revenge, and bitterness. Anger tempts people to act rashly without thinking.

Don't let anger take control of your mind, will and emotions. Anger often brings rash decisions. Remember, when anger takes control of you, then you lose self-control. That's when bad things can happen fast. "And don't sin by letting anger gain control over you" (Ephesians 4:26, NLT).

When you are angry, stop and think. Acting without thinking can multiply your problems. Saying words that you should not, can bring serious damage to important relationships. "Get rid of all bitterness, rage, anger, harsh words, and slander" (Ephesians 4:31, NLT). When words of anger are spoken, they cannot be taken back. Think about the consequences before you speak.

When you are angry, someone has hurt you in word or deed. We become vulnerable to the emotions of anger. Unresolved anger can lead to bitterness. It may poison our minds and endanger our health. Choose to forgive, and "forgiving one another, just as God through Christ has forgiven you" (Ephesians 4:32, NLT). When you are angry, it's time to consider forgiveness. It is God's will for us to forgive one another.
