God Changes Our Hearts

A man said to his friend, "I've been going to church all of my life, but to be honest about it, I'm not sure that God has ever changed my heart. How can I know for sure?" His friend said, "The best thing that I can tell you is that you will know it when God changes your heart, because you will have love like you have never had before." The friend gave him the best answer. God is love, and when God changes our hearts, there is a love like we have never known before. We love God and others. We know God loves us.

In the Old Testament, the Jewish men entered into Abraham's covenant through circumcision. However, no man can circumcise our hearts. Only God can do that. "And the LORD your God will circumcise your heart, and the heart of your descendants, to love the LORD your God . . ." (Deuteronomy 30:6).

We enter the eternal covenant with God through His circumcision of our hearts (Romans 2:28-29; Hebrews 13:20-21). The Spirit of God changes our hearts. God wants our hearts, and when they are changed, we enter into an eternal relationship with Him, confirmed at the cross in the blood of Jesus.

I hope that you have the assurance that God has changed your heart. The psalmist David prayed, "Create in me a clean heart, O God, and renew a right spirit within me" (Psalm 51:10). God heard and answered his prayer. Maybe you are concerned about a loved one. Don't hesitate to pray for them, that the Spirit of God would change their hearts. God changes our hearts.
