"Do you have faith? Have it to yourself before God."
Romans 14:22
Romans 14:22
Two young mothers were talking about their babies. One said, "Becoming a mother is unlike anything that I could ever experience. I feel so bonded to my baby. It's a bond like I can't even explain." The other young mother said, "I know what you mean. It's a bond of unconditional love. In some ways, it's like the bond we have with God, knowing that His love for us is unconditional."
The apostle Paul talks about a personal relationship with God as a bond of faith. More than that, it is a bond of unconditional love that gives us hope for the future (1 Corinthians 13:13). We are connected to God through the Holy Spirit and the gifts of faith, hope, and love. In the Bible, that bond is more often identified in terms of faith or trust. As a mother loves her baby, the child develops trust in her. As we experience the love of God, we also experience faith and hope in God.
What about your bond with God? Is it a bond of faith? If the bond of faith is weak, then focus upon God's love. Ask Him to fill you with His love. When our hearts are full of God's love, the bond of faith will be very strong. Like a baby, unable to do anything to earn or win the mother's love, the infant simply is able to rest in the arms of love. When we rest in God's love, our bond of faith is strong.
Prayer: Father, we thank You for Your unconditional and everlasting love for us in Christ Jesus. Amen.
