Making Decisions

"For whatever is not from faith is sin."

Romans 14:23

A man asked his pastor: "How can I know God's will? The pastor said, "The answer is within you, because the Spirit of God lives inside you. The answer is also confirmed by the Bible. God's word is God's will." The man asked, "But how can I know for sure?" The pastor said, "By faith you know for sure. Don't follow any decision of doubt. God will lead you by faith."

God wants all of His children to live by faith. Without faith it is simply impossible to please God (Hebrews 11:6). The guidance of the Holy Spirit is not difficult for the believer to understand. Doubt is a warning sign. Faith is the assurance of God's Spirit (Hebrews 11:1). Let's use the illustration of a traffic light. The red light is unbelief. The amber light is a warning. The green light is faith to proceed. God leads His people by faith. Our faith is the work of the Holy Spirit in our hearts. God is "working in us both to will and to do of His good pleasure" (Philippians 2:13).

Do you have an important decision to make? Follow the leadership of God's Spirit. When you do, then you can rest assured that God is leading you as a believer "to do His will, working in you what is well pleasing in His sight, through Jesus Christ" (Hebrews 13:21). He works faith in us to do His will. That's making decisions by faith.

Prayer: Father, work in us that which is well pleasing in Your sight, through Jesus Christ. Amen.
