Jesus said, "Come, you blessed of My Father,
inherit the kingdom prepared for you
from the foundation of the world."
Matthew 25:34
A certain man received a letter from an attorney after his father died. He was the sole survivor in the family. Little did the man know that his father had become far more wealthy than he could imagine, through his stock market investments. The good news was that all of it was his inheritance. What a change in his lifestyle would come now. Although his father had become independently wealthy, he continued to live in the same modest home with a simple lifestyle. The sudden death of his father brought many changes to the heir.
God is the Father of all who know Him in a covenant relationship through Jesus Christ. The New Testament teaches that we are joint heirs with Christ. Our inheritance is not by chance. It was prepared by God in Christ before the foundation of the world. What a great and wonderful surprise it will be. "Eye has not seen, nor ear heard, nor have entered into the heart of man the things which God has prepared for those who love Him" (1 Corinthians 2:9).
I read the story a few years ago of a woman who loved to prepare meals for others. After she served the main course, she would always say, "Now, keep your fork. The best is yet to come." Of course, she was talking about the desert. When she died, they prepared her body for burial and a fork was placed in her hand. For her and every child of God: "The best is yet to come." Or, as Jesus put it, "Come, you blessed of My Father, inherit the kingdom prepared for you." That's your inheritance.
Prayer: Father, You have blessed us in this life, but we believe the best is yet to come in Christ. Amen.
