Your Open Door

"Furthermore, when I came to Troas to preach Christ's gospel,
and a door was opened to me by the Lord."

2 Corinthians 2:12

The children got great joy out of playing in front of the electronic door at the supermarket. They enjoyed stepping toward the door to see it open automatically. At least they were having fun until their parents came after them. The fun was over as they walked away. To them, there was much joy in seeing a door open without touching it. Life has many open doors for us. We call them opportunities. Unfortunately, many people, like the children, don't really want to go inside.

The apostle Paul recognized that the Lord opened doors of opportunity for him to preach the gospel of Christ at the right time in the right place. He recognized that God's timing was at work in the circumstances of his life. We often refer to that as the providence of God. Some people call it divine appointments. God is at work in the lives of those who love Him, according to His purpose (Romans 8:28). He sees ahead and provides for us. That provision includes open doors, the opportunities of our lifetime. We must remember when the opportunities come, God always has a purpose. That purpose is focused upon Christ and bringing glory to God.

Unlike the apostle Paul, not everyone is called to be a missionary or a preacher. Yet, all believers are the called of God to serve Him in some way and minister to others. We may not always fully understand our purpose, but God works through us when we understand and when we don't. As He leads us, we need not worry about opportunities. He provides them. Our job is to follow Him and enter the doors of opportunity that He opens before us. Look for your open door.

Prayer: Lord, we know that You have doors of opportunity for us. Use us for Your glory in Jesus name. Amen.
