1 Timothy 6:12
People in a small group Bible study were discussing a lesson on spiritual warfare. A lady asked, "Why do we have to fight in spiritual warfare?" Several people shared an opinion. Finally, the leader said, "Really, spiritual warfare is a battle that we all must fight because our faith is often under attack. We are confronted with the world's unbelief, our own doubts, and the fears that attack us. The only way to victory is to fight the good fight of faith."
The apostle Paul wrote his letters known as First and Second Timothy to a young preacher who was discouraged in spiritual warfare. Fear was his main enemy (2 Timothy 1:7). Because of his discouragement, incited by fear of suffering for the gospel, he was losing the fight. Paul wrote these letters to give him much encouragement. Not only for him, but these same letters in Scripture have been used to help many believers to fight the good fight of faith. Paul reminded him that we need the love and power of God's Spirit, as well as a disciplined mind, to continue the fight.
Are you experiencing spiritual warfare as a believer? Think it not strange that you are in such a battle. Unbelief from others will confront us. Doubts may attack us. Fear can seek to defeat us. Nevertheless, our victory in Christ is assured. "But thanks be to God, who gives us the victory through our Lord Jesus Christ" (1 Corinthians 15:57). Fight the good fight of faith.
Prayer: Father, we receive the victory in spiritual warfare through Jesus Christ. Amen.
