Enter God's Presence

"The singers went before, the players on instruments followed."

Psalm 68:25

Music style became controversial in a certain church. The people were divided according to their favorite type of music for worship. It was disturbing to the pastor, because it had a negative effect on the services. Finally, he made a public statement to the congregation: "I know we all have our favorite style of church music, and we should respect the opinion of others. However, let us make sure that we understand, what we sing is not designed just to please people. We want to please God. We sing unto Him. It's about entering His presence to worship Him."

Our verse for today tells about the people entering God's house for worship. The singers went first. That was for an important reason. They were singing their way into the presence of the LORD. They sang from the Psalms, inspired by the Holy Spirit. Singing is so important to worship. The words of our songs are intended to exalt God in all of His glory. Church music is not to entertain people but to glorify God. We come into His presence with thanksgiving and praise.

God is with us all the time and everywhere. However, in worship we come into His manifest presence. We are refreshed by His revealed presence (Acts 3:19). We all need to experience the presence of God, because we all need to be refreshed in only a way that He can give us. Enter into private worship as well as corporate. Listen to the songs that exalt God. Sing unto the LORD. Sing your way into God's presence.

Prayer: LORD, we long to be refreshed in Your presence.
