In Time of Trouble

"Blessed is he who considers the poor;
the LORD will deliver him in time of trouble."

Psalm 41:1

A man gave a personal testimony to a small gathering of Christians. He stated: I know that God will deliver us in time of trouble. When my time of trouble came, I had the opportunity of proving the covenant promise of Psalm 41:1. Before this verse was called to my attention, I prayed often for God's help. It seemed like I was getting nowhere. Then, I asked God what He wanted me to do? Shortly after that, I read Psalm 41:1 for the first time that I remember. I realized that I was so consumed with my own trouble, that I forgot about others in trouble. When I started helping the poor and those in trouble, God began to do something about my own trouble. He first of all delivered me from my own selfishness."

God wants to help us in time of trouble, but He also wants us to help others. If we become self-centered only about our own trouble, we can easily forget to help others. Please don't think we can buy God's help by giving to the poor. It must come from the heart to give to others. God is not  after our finances. He is after our hearts. He wants us to be unselfish and consider others.

When we are in trouble, it would be good to ask God to use us to help others who are in trouble. This is the heart of God. He is our Helper. He wants us to be like Him. We follow His example, because He has changed our hearts. Then, we care about others in time of trouble.

Prayer: Father, use us to help others, in Jesus name. Amen.
