Will God Help Me?

"My help comes from the LORD, who made heaven and earth."

Psalm 121:2

Walking down the hall of a nursing home, a pastor heard the weak voice of someone calling, "Help! Help!" He went to the door of the room, where the cry of distress was heard. As he looked into the room, he saw a nurse standing at the bed. He realized that help was standing nearby for a senior citizen, so he quietly walked away. He thought to himself, if I would respond to a call for help from a helpless patient, how much more would God respond to those who cry for His help? He had the seed-thought for a sermon. The next Sunday, he brought a message to his congregation on the subject, "God Our Help."

Notice the word LORD, with all capital letters. That's the covenant name for God. He promises to all who enter a covenant with Him by faith, that He will be our help. There are many such promises in the Bible. They are found in the Old and New Testaments. One such promise appears in Psalm 118:6. It is repeated in Hebrews 13:6. "The LORD is my helper; I will not fear. What can man do to me?" People live by fear or by faith. Those who live by fear are sure that the worst things will happen. Those who live by faith are sure that God will help.

In the USA, when we are desperate for help, there is a number to call. Everyone should know that number. It's 911. Someone will listen, ask questions, give information and respond. God's children should never think that the LORD will do anything less. Actually, we should believe that He is able to do far more. Our Helper made heaven and earth. Faith calls upon God for help, knowing that He will respond. We don't know how nor when He will respond, but we know that He is a very present help in time of need. Do you need God's help today? Confess your faith with these words, "My help comes from the LORD, who made heaven and earth."

Prayer: LORD, You are our help. Nothing is too hard for You. We receive Your help in Jesus name. Amen.
