Be Filled with Joy

"In Your presence is fullness of joy."

Psalm 16:11

A Christian man drifted away from his walk with the Lord. He was influenced by friends who lived a very different life-style. It felt good to him to have their acceptance and approval. He thought it would enhance him in his vocational goals. He did receive support to find a promotion and make more income than ever. However, he wasn't happy. He left the corporation, after accepting a new position with another company. He returned to his church and his Christian friends. He said to them, "I have returned to the joy of my life, my relationship with God."

It's possible for a believer to lose the joy of God's presence. This happened to David after yielding to temptation. His life became miserable as he hid his sin. Yet, the day came when he also returned to the joy of his life, his relationship with God. This was his prayer, "Restore to me the joy of Your salvation" (Psalm 51:12). David had lost the joy of his salvation. He was delivered from his guilt. He was cleansed from his sin.

It's God's will to fill your life with the joy of His presence. That doesn't mean that you will have no problems. It does mean that the presence of God will give you joy through it all. Entering the presence of God's joy comes through confessing our sins, as well as knowing the joy of worshipping the Lord. Psalm 16:11 is found in the hymnbook of ancient Israel, containing songs used in worship. As we focus upon God, worshipping Him in songs of praise, His presence of joy fills our lives. Those who truly worship Him, know life filled with joy.

Prayer: Father, cleanse us from all our sins. Restore our joy through worship and praise, in the name of Jesus Christ. Amen.
