Life after Death?

Jesus said, "I am the resurrection and the life,
He who believes in Me, though he may die, he shall live."

John 11:25

A Christian man asked another man, "Do you believe in life after death?" The man responded, "No one knows for sure the answer to that question. No one has ever returned from the grave to tell us." The Christian quickly replied, "Someone has returned. His name is Jesus. He came back from the grave." The Christian continued the discussion, sharing with the man evidence for the resurrection of Christ. He gave the man a copy of the New Testament, asking him to read it. A few weeks later, before he had finished reading the New Testament, he became a believer in Jesus and life after death.

What other man in history ever declared himself to be the resurrection and the life? Either Jesus spoke the truth or He was a false teacher. There is no middle ground. Yet, He not only declared Himself to be the resurrection, but three days after His death, He showed Himself alive, confirmed in the testimonies that we read in the New Testament. Likewise, Jesus promises life after death to every believer.

Do you have the assurance of life after death? Do you have the assurance of being saved from death and judgment through Christ? The gospel is the good news of Christ. It's the promise of everlasting life. Through trusting Christ alone, we have the assurance of sins forgiven and life eternal. The faith of every Christian is based upon the resurrection of Christ. "If you confess with your mouth the Lord Jesus and believe in your heart that God has raised Him from the dead, you will be saved" (Romans 10:9). In Christ there is life after death, everlasting life.

Prayer: Father, we believe in the resurrection of Christ. We confess that Jesus Christ is Lord. Amen.
