"But he who enters by the door is the shepherd of the sheep."
John 10:2
A pastor visited a senior adult lady in the hospital. During the visit, she said, "I don't know why the Lord leaves me here. I don't count for anything." The pastor listened sympathetically, and said, "You count to God because you are one of His children, and He loves all of His children." Then, she smiled, saying, "Well, I can understand that, because I sure love my children." Maybe, all of us will come to a point in life where we wonder if our lives really count for anything. If and when we have such a thought, the answer is certain. You can say, "I count because I'm a child of God, and He loves all of His children."
In Bible days, the shepherd stood at the doorway of the sheepfold. He counted each one of his sheep to make sure that everyone was safely gathered. He knew them by name, and counted one and all. Jesus is the Shepherd of all who trust in Him. He knows our names, and everything about us. He leads us, protects us, and cares for us. Each one of us count, and there is no exception.
Let's face it, sometimes, we just feel sorry for ourselves. During these times of self-pity, we may become depressed. That's the time to remember our personal relationship with the Lord. He will not forsake us. His desire is always to care for us. And, certainly, never forget that we count with Him. He knows our every need. When we are helpless, His strong arms lift us to His heart. Always remember, regardless of the circumstances in life, you count with God.
Lord, You are our Shepherd. We trust You. Remind us often, that each one of us count with You, now and forever. Amen.
