"In the day of my trouble I will call upon You,
for You will answer me."
Psalm 86:7
Does God really answer prayer? People may give a wide variety of answers to that question, but they are really summarized in three responses. Unbelief says, "Of course not. You may as well be talking to yourself." Doubt responds, "Maybe He will and maybe He won't. Who can know for sure?" Faith says, "I will call upon God for He will answer me." The psalmist David gave his testimony of assurance that God would answer his prayers. He knew that God would respond to him in the day of trouble. That was his testimony of faith.
The prayer of faith honors the goodness and mercy of God. Faith will trust God in any situation to answer prayer. Faith is our confidence in God. The Bible says, "But without faith it is impossible to please Him, for he who comes to God must believe that He is, and that He is a rewarder of those who diligently seek Him" (Hebrews 11:6). The only way that we can come to God is by faith. Because God is Spirit, we cannot see Him nor physically touch Him (John 4:24). Faith assures us of His presence and response to our prayers.
A woman had much trouble in life. Her friend suggested that they pray about her problems. The woman said, "I would like to think that God would hear and answer my prayers, but how can I be sure?" Her friend said, "The only way to be sure is to trust His goodness. If your children asked you for help in time of trouble, would you respond? Can't we believe that God would do as much for us?"
Father, we believe in Your goodness and mercy. Therefore, we know that You will answer our prayers, through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.
