You Have a Helper

Jesus said, "For if I go not away, the Helper will not come to you;
but if I depart, I will send Him to you."

John 16:7

I was with another minister. The battery on his car went dead. We got out of the car to see if there was corrosion on the battery poles. We saw none. Before we could do anything else, a truck came by. The man got out of his truck. He asked, "Can I help you?" We told him the battery was dead. He got jumper cables out of his truck. It was not long before the car was started. The other minister said, "Thank you. Let me pay you for your help." The man quickly responded, "Oh no, I just like to help people." He was on his way and so were we. It's good to have a helper in time of trouble and need. Every believer in Christ has a Helper in the Holy Spirit.

The Holy Spirit is the believer's Helper to guide. He guides us in many ways, most importantly, He guides us into all truth. Jesus said, "I am the Truth" (John 14:6). The Holy Spirit guides us to Christ and the truth of Christ in the Bible. He inspired the writers of Holy Scripture. He spoke through the authors of Scripture, and He still speaks to us today concerning our faith in Christ. We should judge our opinions and ideas on the truth of Christ in the Bible. The truth sets us free from fear, superstition, and most of all, doubt and unbelief.

An automobile battery can become weak and unable to perform. It needs to be connected to a power source to be restored. So it is with our faith. It may become weak. Depending upon the Helper, the Holy Spirit, He is more than able to restore and strengthen our faith. Our connection to Him is found in the Bible. Faith is a gift of the Spirit. It's a gift that we receive through the word of the Lord. "So then faith comes by hearing, and hearing by the word of God" (Romans 10:17). You have a Helper to strengthen your faith to receive all that God has for you.
Father, we receive the Holy Spirit as our Helper. Strengthen our faith and guide us into all truth, through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.
