A minister was talking to a man about becoming a Christian. The man said to him, "Listen, I would really like to be a Christian, but I just can't be. You see, I could never hold out to live the Christian life." The minister replied, "Neither can I. Listen, I know what you're saying. The good news is that God will give you that power." Not on that day, but a few months later, that man discovered the power of God to change his life.
After the resurrection of Christ, He gave His disciples the promise of the Father. They were to receive power from on high. God's power, the Holy Spirit, is needed to live the Christian life and serve the Lord. That power is available to all who believe in Christ. The Holy Spirit convinces us of our need for Christ (John 16:8-11). He comes into our lives when we believe on the Lord Jesus Christ (Ephesians 1:12-13). The Spirit of Christ lives in the believer (Romans 8:9). He empowers us for service, worship and witness.
Don't try to live the Christian life without the person and power of the Holy Spirit. Recognize that He lives within you as a believer in Christ. Yield to Him through prayer. Ask the Father to fill your life with the power of love, joy and peace through the Holy Spirit. Receive His power by faith in Jesus Christ. The power for living in Christ is the Holy Spirit.
Father, we yield our lives to the Holy Spirit. Fill us with the power of Jesus. Amen.
