Someone Will Help You

"He sent a man before them,
Joseph who was sold as a slave."

Psalm 105:17

The man was discouraged. He lost his job suddenly and unexpectedly. He was worried and didn't know which way to turn. One day he was in the waiting room at an auto dealership, waiting for his car to be serviced. He happened to see a man that he knew in college. They had not seen each other in many years.

As they continued to talk, he shared with his former classmate that he had recently lost his job. His friend said, "I'm the chief executive officer of a corporation here in town. We could use an experienced, well-trained man like you." That's exactly what happened. He had a new job just a few days later. He excitedly shared the good news with his wife, saying, "That is so unreal for me to see my friend that day after so many years. I know God was in it."

The brothers of Joseph sold him into slavery because they were jealous. He was their father's favorite son. The book of Genesis tells the story. Years later, as a slave in Egypt, through a strange turn of events, he became Pharaoh's trusted advisor. Because of a famine in the land, his brothers came to Egypt seeking food. Ironically, they had to face Joseph. He helped his brothers in their time of need, saying to them, "But as for you, you meant evil against me, but God meant it for good" (Genesis 50:20).

When you go through a transition or a tough time in life, look for your Joseph. Times can get hard. Discouragement may come. Through it all, God is always working for our good as His children. He plans ahead of every event in our lives His good purpose to fulfill.

Father, use us to help others, through Jesus Christ our Lord.
