God Works in You

"For it is God who works in you
both to will and to do for His good pleasure."

Philippians 2:13

The clock on the wall looked like an antique, but it wasn't. It was a replica which was battery operated. It was stopped at 11 o'clock and had not worked for a long time. It was not broken. It simply needed a new battery. The clock had a primary purpose of showing the correct time. It couldn't do that until someone changed the battery. Our lives are like that clock. We may appear fine on the outside, but a closer look shows that we have no real purpose. We too need a change on the inside.

God has a purpose for our lives, and only He can enable us to fulfill it. Likewise, only He can change us on the inside. Our problem is in the heart, or the inner-man. This includes our mind, will and emotions. It's humbling but true, we simply can't change our lives. The good news is that God can change us. He is able to work in us to do His will for His good pleasure. It all begins with a change of mind, causing a change of direction within us. The Bible calls this repentance. God's goodness leads us to repent (Romans 2:4).

God continues to work in every believer to change different areas of our lives. The journey of our faith testifies to God's continuing work in our hearts. In essence, He's still working on us to make us what we ought to be. We have this assurance. "He who has begun a good work in you will complete it until the day of Jesus Christ" (Philippians 1:6). In the meantime, be patient with yourself, and by all means, be patient with others. God is not finished with us yet.

God, work in us according to Your will.
