Righteous by Faith

"And he believed in the LORD,
and He accounted it to him for righteousness."

Genesis 15:6

A minister talked to a man about becoming a Christian. The man said to him, "I appreciate you talking to me, but I couldn't ever be good enough to become a Christian." The minister quickly replied, "Neither could I, but when we believe in the LORD, He gives us His righteousness and we receive it by faith." The man didn't understand, so the minister opened his Bible and shared with him that the only way we could ever be right with God is by grace through faith. He made it clear that the righteousness of God is a gift through Christ, only received by faith. The man received Christ by faith and said, "If everyone understood what you shared with me, how could anyone refuse God's gift?"

Abraham was made right with God by believing in the LORD. He received God's gift of righteousness by faith. Abraham is our example three times in the New Testament on how to get right with God (Romans 4:3; Galatians 3:6; James 2:23). LORD is God's covenant name.

Through the covenant, God makes wonderful promises to all who believe. One of the greatest promises is the gift of righteousness. The word grace means gift. The only way anyone has ever become right with God is by grace through faith (Habakkuk 2:4; Ephesians 2:8-9).

Do you often feel unworthy to think that you are right with God? The truth is, we are unworthy. We have all sinned (Romans 3:23). The good news is that God provides a way for us to be right with Him by grace through faith. The righteousness of God is perfectly revealed in Christ. By faith in Him, we receive the gift of God's perfect righteousness, when we believe in the LORD.

God, we receive Your righteousness by faith in Christ.
