Why Did God Make Us?

"May the glory of the LORD endure forever;
may the LORD rejoice in His works."

Psalm 104:31

The boy asked his dad, "Why did God make us?" His father thought for a minute, then he said, "Son, I suppose God made us for the same reason I wanted to be a father. I wanted to have a son like you to love and enjoy. God wants to love and enjoy us." I believe the dad gave his son a good answer. The psalmist went further to explain that God's works are for His glory. He rejoices in His works. The universe and everything in it is the work of God. That includes us. We were made for His glory. He rejoices over us.

God's work in man did not stop with His original creation. He is still at work in our world. He is working all around us, but don't forget, He is working in us. Too many times, God's people only think about working for God, and we easily forget that God is working in us. He is working faith, hope and love in us (1 Cor. 13:13). He is working in us to desire and do His good pleasure (Philippians 2:13). God always gives us the desires of our hearts, when those desires come from Him. To refuse to believe that God is working in you as a Christian is to reject the plain teaching of Scripture. He works in all of His covenant children.

What is God doing in your life? As a believer in Christ, He is working in us when we know and understand, and when we don't. The Bible is the believer's manual to help us understand how God is working in us. When you buy a new car, you receive an owner's manual. It teaches you how the car was designed and how it works. It explains the features of the car for you to understand. You are God's workmanship (Ephesians 2:10). He is working in you today.

LORD, we worship You as our Creator.
