Your Goal in Life

"But seek first the kingdom of God and His righteousness,
and all these things shall be added to you."

Matthew 6:33

The man had one priority in life. He wanted to be a millionaire before he was fifty years old. Everything that he did was focused on this priority. He became a workaholic, totally consumed with his life's goal. He was making progress that encouraged him to stay focused on one priority. Meanwhile, he had very little time for marriage and family. He took no time for recreation and rest. The results were a failed marriage, children who felt rejected by their dad, and health issues that were serious. He never accomplished his life's goal. Even if he had, the story would still be one of failure as a husband, father and healthy, well-balanced person.

What is your priority in life? Jesus did not deny the importance of other things, when he said to seek first the kingdom of God. With the right priority, all the other "things shall be added to you." It's a matter of priority and focus.

The kingdom of God is the will of God in our lives. Jesus taught us to pray to the Father, "Your kingdom come. Your will be done." That's a literary style known as a Hebrew couplet. That is, you say the same thing in other words. When our priority in life is the will of God, we are moving with God and not against Him.

Flowing in the will of God is like traveling in a boat down stream. He provides the strength and energy. Moving against the will of God is like paddling a boat up stream. It gets harder as you go. We do it in our strength alone, and we never reach that point of rest. Then, it's time to turn our lives around and enjoy the trip called life, as we flow in God's will. Choose God's will as your priority in life.

Father, may Your will be done in our lives.
