Doing God's Will

"Then I said, 'Behold, I have come,
in the volume of the book it is written of Me,
to do Your will, O God."

Hebrews 10:7

Psalm 40:6-8 is quoted in the tenth chapter of Hebrews. It is a prophetic word about Christ coming to do the will of the Father at the cross. Jesus knew the will of God from the Holy Scripture in the Old Testament. He is found in typology as well as prophecy throughout the Old Testament. He who knew the will of God from the Scripture is the same one who always did the Father's will in His life.

The Bible is the written will of God. Christ is the will of God in flesh. Today, we can be certain of knowing the will of God as we read the Bible, and see the will of God revealed in the person of Jesus Christ.

Years ago Charles M. Sheldon wrote a classic book entitled, In His Steps. It's the story of a pastor promising his church that he would not do anything for a year without first asking one question, "What would Jesus do?" That one question changed his life as well as his church. The question answers another question, "What is the will of God?" Jesus revealed the will of God the Father for all to see. You can know God's will from the Bible in Christ.

Most Christians would like to have divine guidance in decision-making. It's available. The Bible is the written record of God's will. Jesus Christ is the one person who always did the will of the Father. The will of God is a mystery revealed through the Bible and in the life of the Son of God. Everyone who wants to know can read and see God's will. You can know God's will.

God, give us grace to know and do Your will.
