God Answers Prayer

"Blessed be the LORD, because He has heard
the voice of my supplications!"

Psalm 28:6

A little boy asked his mother, "How do we know God hears our prayers? Is there some way that He can let us know?" She said, "Oh Johnny, that's such a good question. We have to trust Him to hear us, just like you trust me to take care of you." The mother had wisdom in her answer.

Everything about our relationship with God requires trust. All relationships are built on trust, especially our relationship with God. If we don't trust Him, prayer is a meaningless repetition of words. The psalmist trusted God to hear his prayers. He wrote, "My heart trusted in Him, and I am helped" (Psalm 28:7).

The prayers of the psalmist were based upon the LORD as his Rock (Psalm 28:1). The word Rock is used as a symbol for God often in the Bible. One thing it points to is the unchanging, steadfastness of God. Who He is, He shall forever be. If He has ever answered prayer, He shall always answer prayer.

Also, prayer is based on trusting in the name of the LORD. That's the covenant name for God. Prayer is willing to trust the LORD to honor the promises of His covenant Word. We may trust His Word of promise as our bond with God.

Do you trust God to answer your prayers? Ask him to give you a heart to trust Him. He is more than able. Take Him at the promises of His Word in the Bible. Trust in the name of the LORD, as the One who always keeps His covenant oath of promise. The LORD is trustworthy!

God, we trust Your covenant promises for answered prayer in Jesus name.
