"And he believed in the LORD,
and He accounted it to him for righteousness."
Genesis 15:6
Driving down a county road, I saw a sign nailed to a tree. It had four words - "Get Right with God." Of course, everyone needs to get right with God, but so many people just really don't know how. Abraham knew how to get right with God. "And he believed in the LORD." That's the way people got right with God in the Old Testament days. That's the way people got right with God in New Testament days (Romans 4:3; Galatians 3:6). That's the way people get right with God today. It's the only way to get right with God, and it never changes.
Believing the LORD is trusting Him. It establishes an ongoing relationship with the LORD, as we continue to believe or trust in Him. The personal relationship with God is not based on our self-righteousness. It is based on the righteousness of God. When we trust in the LORD, His righteousness is accounted to us. It is perfect righteousness received as the gift of God. It is the righteousness of God revealed in Scripture and in the person of our LORD JESUS (Romans 3:26).
A man said to a pastor, "I'm not good enough to be a Christian." The pastor quickly responded, "Neither am I. That's the reason Jesus died for our sins and was raised again. When we believe in the LORD, He gives us His righteousness received by faith as the gift of God." That's getting right with God.
God, by faith we receive Your righteousness in Jesus name.
