. . . For out of you shall come a Ruler
who will shepherd My people Israel."
Micah 5:2
The boy asked his dad, "Why did Jesus have to be born in Bethlehem?" Dad said, "Well, son, that's where God wanted Him to be born, and that's where the Bible promised that He would be born. You could say that God kept His promise about Jesus being born in Bethlehem."
A promise it certainly was that the Messiah would be born in Bethlehem. Jesus fulfilled that promise many centuries later. God kept His word through the prophet Micah. God always keeps His word. He is trustworthy in all that He promises to His people.
Messiah born in Bethlehem is just one of hundreds of promises that God has made to all believers in the Bible. That means we can stand upon the promises of God that cannot fail. What He says He will do. No one who trusts Him will be disappointed. Faith is simply taking God at His word. Our salvation and its assurance, answered prayer, and our eternal destiny, are all made certain by trusting the sure promises of God.
Do you believe the promises of God? Do you believe that God is trustworthy? Unbelief says, "What do those promises made centuries ago have to do with me? I see no reason to believe them." Doubt says, "Sometimes I want to believe them, but I really wonder if they are true?" Faith says, "God does not lie. What He says He will do. What He promises He will bring to fulfillment."
Father, we trust Your promises through Jesus Christ. Amen.
