"The LORD has prepared His throne in the heavens;
and His kingdom rules over all."
Psalm 103:19
Our verse for today pictures God as the King over all. One symbol of a king is his throne. The LORD has His throne in the heavens. He is the King of kings. In Bible days, a king ruled over his nation with the final word in all things. So, the image of God as King shows us His sovereignty ruling over all. A king in those days may have enemies and subjects who rebelled against him, yet his position of authority was without question. Our LORD has enemies who rebel against Him and His royal law. Their end is sure; their doom is certain. "His kingdom rules over all."
As a subject approached the throne of a king, he bowed his head and bent his knees. This was an outward action of submitting to the king's rule. As believers, we are to submit ourselves unto God. We do so in prayer saying, "Not my will, but Your will be done." Herein is the key to prayer, submitting ourselves to God's good will. As we approach God in prayer, we come to the throne of grace. His favor and help is available in our time of need. My favorite prayer promise is Hebrews 4:16. "Let us therefore come boldly to the throne of grace, that we may obtain mercy and find grace to help in time of need."
God rules with grace to help us. We need not fear rejection before His throne, for the believer it is always a throne of grace. He wants us to come with confidence, boldly expressing our needs. We go not away disappointed, but by faith we are satisfied, receiving help in time of need. Do you have a need today? Approach the throne of the One who rules over all.
God, rule over us with grace to help.
