". . . God of all comfort, who comforts us in our tribulations,
that we may be able to comfort those who are in any trouble . . ."
2 Corinthians 1:2-3
A young man was arrested for driving while intoxicated. He was entitled to one phone call, so he called his dad for help. To his surprise, his dad said, "You got yourself in there, you get yourself out." Then, his dad abruptly ended the conversation. The young man had done wrong, but he needed help in trouble. God our Father knows how to help His children, even when we go astray. He is the God of all comfort. That word comfort means to strengthen.
Many people are reluctant to seek God's help, because they feel unworthy. The truth is that none of us are worthy enough to deserve His help. Our time of trouble may be the best opportunity to see the goodness of God to comfort and strengthen us.
A minister said to a man who was going through much trouble, "God wants to help you." The man replied, "I haven't been good enough for God to help me." The minister quickly replied, "It's not about our goodness, but His goodness."
How does God comfort us in trouble? Most often, He uses other people. In the time of our need, He brings people into our lives who can help us. Quite often, those people have faced the same difficulties that we face. Therefore, they really do understand. When they have received God's comfort, they desire to comfort others.
Father, we welcome Your comfort through all trouble.
