Ready for Judgment

"The Ancient of Days came, and a judgment was made
in favor of the saints of the Most High."

Daniel 7:22

They had just returned from church, when their twelve year-old son said, "It really bothers me when the pastor preaches about judgment. Sometime it scares me." His mother said, "Son, we should be serious about judgment but not scared. You have committed your life to Christ, and you have nothing to fear." He said, "Oh, mother, you don't understand. I'm scared for the people who aren't ready for judgment." She said, "Son, all of us should be."

Strangely enough, those who are not ready for judgment seldom fear God. They may even mock and scorn the very idea of a judgment coming. Those who fear God, or hold Him in awe, understand from the Bible that we shall stand in judgment before the Most High God. Fear, or reverence for God, is a sure indication that God has changed our hearts (Jeremiah 32:40). Also, the Bible gives believers assurance in the face of judgment. "There is therefore now no condemnation to those who are in Christ Jesus" (Romans 8:1).

All believers should have a real concern for friends and family members who may not be ready for judgment. It is not a matter to be taken lightly. The twelve year-old boy is an example for all of us to follow. His concern was born out of the truth of Scripture and a loving concern for others. The apostle Paul had such concern for those who were not ready for judgment. He wrote, "My conscience also bearing me witness in the Holy Spirit, that I have great sorrow and continual grief in my heart . . ." (Romans 9:1-3). The apostle, as well as a twelve year-old boy, knew that judgment is coming.

God, make us ready for judgment through Jesus our Lord.
