Spiritually Blind

"There is none who understands, no, not one.
There is none who seeks after God."

Romans 3:10-11

Two men were talking about church. Neither of them were believers. One said, "I have never gone to church, except for a few weddings and funerals." The other one said, "I went to church as a child, and I've attended on rare occasions since then, but it seems like such a waste of time. I just don't understand why people would want to go." Not far away, a Christian overheard their conversation. He later prayed for both of them. His prayer was: "Lord, open the eyes of their understanding that they may know You. Amen."

None of us understand our need for God, until the Spirit of God opens our eyes of understanding. Therefore, we don't seek God, until we have understanding. Only the Holy Spirit can convince us of our sin of unbelief, the righteousness of Christ, and judgment (John 16:7-11). After we come to faith in Christ, we need God to open our eyes of understanding that we may grow in our faith. Paul prayed for believers: ". . . your understanding being enlightened, that you may know what is the hope of His calling" (Ephesians 1:18).

As a believer, do you want to understand more about your relationship with God? If so, read your Bible with the prayer that God will continue to open the eyes of your understanding to grow in your faith. If you are praying for others who are not not believers, pray that the eyes of their understanding will be opened that they will know God through faith in Jesus Christ. No one understands until the Spirit of God opens our eyes of understanding. We are spiritually blind until the Lord gives us eyes to see and hearts to understand.

Open our eyes Lord to see and understand.
