Jesus said, "You are already clean
because of the word which I have spoken."
John 15:3
A man confided in a Christian friend. He said, "I know that I can trust you. There's a sin that I committed thirty-five years ago, and I still feel guilty about it. I wish that I could feel clean before God." His friend said, "I've got good news for you. We all can be clean before God through the promise of His word. First John 1:9 is a promise of the word that we all need as believers." Then he quoted the promise of God, "If we confess our sins, He is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness." They prayed together based upon the promise of God's word. The man left that day clean before God, with a new found joy.
Jesus spoke the word of God. God sent Him into this world to take away our sins, that we may know the joy of the Lord, and be clean before God. Jesus spoke the word that people could know that they were cleansed from their sins. Jesus said to one man, "Son, your sins are forgiven you" (Mark 2:5). God's word to us through the Bible is that we are forgiven and clean before God, through Jesus Christ our Lord.
Is there a sin in your past that causes you to feel unclean before God? Confess that sin in prayer. Ask God to cleanse you through Jesus Christ. God wants to forgive you. His Son died that we may be clean before God. Then, the guilt is gone.
Doubt says, "I know that Christ died for the sin of the world, but I have a past sin that makes me feel guilty." Faith says, "Christ died for all of my sins. I am clean before God."
