What's in Your Heart?

"Blessed be the LORD God of our fathers,
who has put such a thing as this in the king's heart,
to beautify the house of the LORD which is in Jerusalem."

Ezra 7:27

The V-formation of geese as they fly is an amazing thing to observe. Usually there are 25 geese flying in that formation. It provides more efficiency and makes the long migratory routes easier to travel. During WW II our Air Force copied the flight formation with success. Where do you think the geese got the idea? Could it be that they have a Creator who put the insight within them? If God can put that type of understanding in the geese, do you suppose that He could put thoughts and desires in our hearts? The apostle Paul would say yes. He wrote these words, "It is God who works in you both to will and to do of His good pleasure" (Philippians 2:13).

God put it in the heart of a pagan king, Cyrus of Persia, to allow God's people to restore the LORD'S house in Jerusalem. The Bible tells us that God "stirred up the spirit of Cyrus" (Ezra 1:1). That is to say, God put it in his heart. Almighty God moves when and where He chooses to fulfill His word and will. God fulfilled the prophetic word that He gave to Jeremiah. It was fulfilled through the heart of Cyrus. The story told in the book of Ezra is a testimony to the power and glory of God. It verifies once again the surety of God's prophetic word. God watches over His word to perform it.

What has God put in your heart? If God has put something in your heart, it is good and right. Furthermore, if God put it in your heart, it will always be consistent with His word, the Bible. When God puts something in our hearts, it simply will not go away. God puts it in our hearts to serve Him. He gives us insight and desire. He confirms it with talents, abilities and opportunities. Joy in life comes through knowing and doing God's will. What's in your heart?

Father, put in our hearts all You would have us do for Your glory.
