Your Purpose in Life

"I will praise You, for I am fearfully and wonderfully made.
Marvelous are Your works, and that my soul knows very well."

Psalm 139:14

Two college students were talking about the origin of the species. One asked, "Do you really think that we are made by God for a purpose, or do you believe that we are just a cosmic accident?" The other one said, "I would like to believe that there's a God who made us for a purpose, but how could we ever know for sure?" The friend responded, "I guess either way you go, it comes down to faith. I would certainly rather believe that we have a purpose in life."

The Bible teaches, that God made us and He made us for a certain purpose. It's a matter of faith. The psalmist declared God made us, and we are part of His marvelous works. David is thought to be the author of Psalm 139. He not only believed that God made him, but he was confident that God had a purpose in his life. He was a man of faith in God. His faith was based on God's covenant word. Once he was a shepherd boy, but God had other plans for him. He became the king of God's people. An unlikely choice was he, yet God's purpose was fulfilled in him.

Do you believe that God made you for a purpose? The Bible teaches that He did. As a child of God, we can be certain that our lives are not a cosmic accident. God works according to His eternal purpose, and that includes us.

"And we know that all things work together for good to those who love God, to the called according to His purpose" (Romans 8:28). What could that purpose be? The very next verse tells us: "to be conformed to the image of His Son." Everything that happens to us in this life is to make us more like Christ, until we are conformed to His likeness. The believer knows life with purpose.

Father, fulfill Your purpose for our lives in Christ.
