Dealing with Doubt

"When they saw Him, they worshiped Him; but some doubted."

Matthew 28:17

A man said to a minister, "I would like to be a man of faith, but I have my doubts. There always seems to be doubt about everything." The minister said, "So you are a man of doubt? If you really are, then you should doubt your doubts." The man laughed and replied, "Well, if I doubted all of my doubts, I just might become a man of faith." All of us have to deal with doubts, but we should always remember to doubt our doubts.

After Jesus was raised from the dead, He appeared unto His disciples. Even then, some doubted. It's hard to believe anyone would doubt with Christ standing before them. Why would anyone doubt in a situation like that? We should understand that doubt is a choice. Doubt refuses to believe what it can't understand nor explain.

Jesus promised His disciples that He would rise from the dead. Obviously, some doubted His word of promise. Their doubt refused His word and the evidence standing before them. They had chosen selective doubt. After all, if we want to doubt, we should doubt our doubts.

Do you have problems with doubt? Do you ever doubt the Bible, your salvation, or the promises of God? Do you doubt your doubts? How should we deal with our doubts? The Bible describes doubt as sin. "Whatever is not from faith is sin" (Romans 14:23). The Bible teaches that doubt comes from being double-minded (James 1:6-8). It robs us from receiving the promises of God. Let us confess to God our doubts as sin. Let us ask God for faith to trust all the promises of His word. That's dealing with doubt.

Father, we confess our doubts as sin.
