Faith that Works

"Thus also faith by itself,
if it has not works, is dead."

James 2:17

Her teen-age son wanted a summer job. He said, "I have faith that God will give me a job." Mother said, "I'm sure He will, but where have you made application for a job?" He said, "No where." His mother smiled, and said, "God will do His part, but you must do your part as well. You need to apply at places looking for summer help. The Bible says that faith without works is dead."

The Bible mentions two types of faith in James, chapter two. One is a living faith; the other is dead faith. Real faith is never passive. It is active. Living faith works. It obeys God's word. It seeks to do God's will. Dead faith is only talk without action. Hebrews, chapter 11, is the great faith chapter in the Bible. It mentions the names of many people from the Old Testament, who had real faith in God. It tells about their action and obedience because of their faith. They all had a faith that works.

Do you have faith in God to work in your life? What are you believing God to do through you? God works in our lives through faith, a faith that acts and obeys. When we are trusting God to do something in our lives, we should always ask Him a question: Lord, what would  You have me to do?

A farmer may rightly ask God to bless him with a good harvest, but he understands that he must also cultivate the soil and sow the seed. He knows his part. Then, he can pray that God will bless his faith that works, that God may give the increase at harvest.

Father, give us a living faith that works.
