Psalm 18:29
A discouraged man had been looking for a job for months without success. He said to his wife, "I'm ready to give up. I've gone everywhere I know to go. I've done everything that I know to do. I give up." She said, "If you give up, then you are sure not to find a job." He said, "Then what can I do?" She responded, "Ask God to give you an idea." He did just that. As he was praying, a friend suddenly came to mind. He later contacted that friend to ask for his help. That idea was the key to finding a job. The friend knew a company that was hiring. What if the man had given up?
To "leap over a wall" is a figurative expression. The context of the psalm speaks of a deer having the God-given ability to do just that. "He makes my feet like the feet of a deer, and sets me on high places" (Psalm 18:33). Any of us may face a situation in which there seems to be no way out. It's like a wall before us that becomes a barrier to going forward in life. We can easily give up. Yet, we need to consider what God can do through us. A deer may simply look at a wall as an opportunity to jump. The God who enabled the deer to jump over a wall is the same God who can work through us to overcome any barrier.
Do you have a situation like a wall in your life? There seems to be no way to move beyond it. You may feel stuck in your circumstances. Don't give up. Let God work through you. He is able to do exceedingly more than you could ever imagine. The God who made the deer to leap over a wall is the same God who made you. The walls in your life are only opportunities to trust God to work in you. "Now to Him who is able to do exceedingly abundantly above all that we ask or think, according to the power that works in us" (Ephesians 3:20).
