A certain woman had serious issues in her life. You could really say her life was a mess. She said to a friend, "I need God in my life. He's my only hope. But how can I know when He is really in my life?" Her friend said, "He is already at work in your life." She said, "Are you serious? How can you know that?" Her friend replied, "When you said He is my only hope, I knew that He was at work in your life. God is Spirit and a gift of His Spirit working in us is hope."
God works in us through the Holy Spirit. We can know for sure when He is working in us. Three abiding gifts of the Spirit work within us. They are faith, hope, and love. Faith and hope in God and his Son Jesus Christ is sure evidence that God is in our lives. Abiding faith is our bond with God. Hope in God through Christ is the surety of eternal life. Love is the greatest evidence of all, because God is love (1 John 4:8, 16).
Is God in your life? Is the Spirit of Christ working within you? You can know now, and you can know for sure. Three simple questions will tell you the truth. First, do you have faith in God through our Lord Jesus Christ? Secondly, do you have the hope of eternal life in Christ? Most importantly, do you know the love of God in your heart causing you to love the Lord and others? These abiding gifts of the Spirit are real in the lives of those who have a personal relationship with God in Christ. That's knowing God in you.
