Assurance of Heaven

Jesus said, "If I go and prepare a place for you,
I will come again and receive you to Myself."

John 14:3

Billy Graham said, "It is only since Christians have largely ceased to think of the next world that they have become so ineffective in this one." Believers are to be reminded that this life is only a journey to an eternal place prepared by Jesus Christ for us.

Jesus used a common everyday illustration from the first century to illustrate preparing a place for believers in eternity. When a wealthy family received guests for the night, a servant met them in the courtyard, took off their sandals to wash their feet, then the servant went upstairs to prepare a room for them. He came downstairs when the room was prepared, to lead them to their place. So Jesus says to all His disciples, "If I go to prepare a place for you, I will come again and receive you to Myself."

How can we know that Jesus has a place prepared for us? Jesus says to us, "In My Father's house are many mansions. If it were not so, I would have told you" (John 14:2).

Where is the Father's house? Jesus said, "Where I am" (John 14:3).

How do we get to the Father's house? Jesus said, "I am the way" (John 14:6).

There are many more questions that we could ask about heaven and the life everlasting. The Bible doesn't answer all of our questions, but it tells us of the One who prepares the place. It's all about our relationship with Him. It's a faith relationship. Jesus says, "You believe in God, believe also in Me" (John 14:1). He has a place for you and every believer. Our assurance is trust in Christ alone.

Father, thank You for the place prepared for us in Christ.
