The Lamb of God

"He was led as a lamb to the slaughter."

Isaiah 53:7

The prophet Isaiah foretold the death of Christ for our sins, centuries before it happened. The Bible is such an amazing book. Inspired by the Holy Spirit, the Bible declares the foreknowledge of God centuries before it comes to pass. Jesus goes to the cross as the Lamb of God, dying for the sins of the world. John the Baptist pointed to Jesus as the fulfillment of the prophecy. He said, "Behold! The Lamb of God who takes away the sin of the world" (John 1:29).

Jesus, like the passover lamb in the Old Testament, died in the place of others. He was our substitute at the cross. He took our sins and judgment upon Himself. He shed His blood and poured out His life on our behalf. He died that we may live with life eternal. Our sin debt was paid by the sinless One.

Is Jesus Christ your Lamb? Can you say by faith, that on the cross, he took my place? The testimony of faith is made sure by the Holy Spirit working grace in our hearts. Has it happened in your heart? If so, you look upon Christ crucified, knowing that He was the sacrifice for all of your sins.

My heart is always moved as I meditate upon Christ crucified for my sins. Then, the words to an old hymn come to mind. "Dear dying Lamb, thy precious blood shall never lose its power, til all the ransomed church of God be saved to sin no more."
