So, you read the Bible, say prayers, and attend church. Yet, you struggle in knowing God for real. Or, there was a time when you knew God for real, but now He seems so far away. Some people strive to know God for real, but they give up. How can anyone know God for real?
Knowing God for real is not what you do for God. It's what He does for you and in you. Only the Spirit of God can enable you to know God for real. The Holy Spirit changes your heart to know God in a very personal way. He gives you faith to know God and walk with Him day by day. The Spirit of God gives you understanding and guidance in your walk with God.
Knowing God for real is about getting real with God. You admit to Him what you have done wrong. You tell Him about your doubts and struggles to believe. You ask Him to reveal Himself to you. You welcome Him to do in you, what you cannot do for yourself, to know God for real.
Knowing God for real means that you know God as your Father through His Son Jesus Christ. It means that the Holy Spirit has opened your eyes of understanding to who God is, and what He has done for you in Christ. You know that your sins are forgiven, and Jesus is Lord. Knowing God for real is yielding your life to the Holy Spirit, to work in you what is pleasing to God. "For God is working in you, giving you the desire to obey him and the power to do what pleases him" (Philippians 2:13, NLT).
