Our Safe Place

Trouble comes to all of us. I hope you are not facing trouble today. If you are, God just may use it to bring a blessing to you. When you find yourself in trouble, you often realize your need for God. There is good news. God is our safe place in times of trouble. "The LORD also will be a refuge for the oppressed, a refuge in times of trouble" (Psalm 9:9). A refuge is a safe place.

You are more likely to pray in times of trouble. Also, you are more likely to ask others to pray for you. It's in times of serious need that you are more likely to see your need for God. The Bible teaches that God will help you in times of trouble. "God is our refuge and strength, a very present help in trouble" (Psalm 46:1).

Fear often attacks you in the midst of trouble. Faith can be your main resource to overcome fear. Faith must believe that God cares about you. He really does love you. Love never refuses to help someone in need. The Bible teaches that "God is love" (1 John 4:8). Talk to Him about your troubles. There you will find a safe place.

When trouble comes you may respond in one of three ways. First, you may be tempted to panic and give up. Secondly, you may think you are smart enough to figure a way out of trouble, even if it means compromising your faith and values. There is another way, a better way. Call upon God for His help. Always remember, God is "a very present help in trouble" (Psalm 46:1).
