Judgment does not compromise with mercy. Where you find judgment, mercy is not welcomed. Judgment seeks truth and desires justice without mixture with mercy. We want judgment, when someone does wrong to us. However, we want mercy, when we have done wrong. Judgment demands justice without mercy.
Only through God does mercy have the final word over judgment. "Mercy triumphs over judgment" (James 2:13). At the judgment throne of God do you want justice or mercy? If you are without sin, you should demand justice. However, no one is without sin. "For all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God" (Romans 3:23). Therefore, our plea is for mercy.
God's mercy triumphs over judgment. God is the Judge of all mankind. His justice bends to no one. His justice must prevail in all things. Mercy triumphs over judgment only in God's Son. As believers in Jesus Christ, He took our judgment at the cross. That's the good news. Mercy triumphed over judgment in Christ.
God's judgment was placed upon Jesus at the cross for our sins. In our place, Jesus was judged for our sins. Judgment was served, that God could be both just and merciful. Justice was fully paid for our sins, that God could show mercy to sinners like you and me. In Christ, God's mercy triumphed over judgment, "that He might be just and the justifier of the one who has faith in Jesus" (Romans 3:26).
